That is probably THE most frequently asked question! The answer is no. The building was built in 1912 and the first occupants of this space was the Babcock Store. It was a general merchandise store that was family owned and operated until 1968.

We never know. But - it’s always a happy surprise when they do come! By federal law, there is no schedule available to the public for freight trains but we do love seeing them. We have seen the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus train. We have also seen the 611 with is a restored steam engine train.

Now, you can Build Your Own Packages at V1848 so there are plenty of great options!

Our new pricing starts with “The Venue Only”. For a true DIY event, rent the venue for a few hours or for the whole day. If you need a little help, you can add only the services you want. Shop our decor selection for rentals.

Yes! Venue 1848 is perfect for your elopement or micro-wedding. Book a discovery call or schedule an in-person tour to see if Venue 1848 is a good fit for your wedding day vision. EMAIL to get started.

We can comfortably seat up to 60 guests for dining (sometimes more) and up to 75 in a lecture-style or a ceremony setup. While our maximum legal capacity inside downstairs is 86, the specific needs of your event are important factors to consider. We are happy to speak with you to see if V1848 is a good fit for your needs. Inquire.

Yes! However, if you or your guests will consume alcohol, a Virginia ABC Banquet license is required by law. Venue 1848 does have some restrictions and may require you to have a bartender. Ask for details. Apply on-line to get an ABC Banquet license here. 

The Venue 1848 parking lot is located behind our building. We provide a RESERVED parking pass for you, your guests of honor and necessary vendors.  There is also plenty of other free parking within easy walking distance. Download the Venue 1848 parking map.

Yes! Accidents happen and liability insurance protects you from major loss. Talk with your insurance agent or consider an online service provider such as www.theeventhelper.com. 

Sure! We are happy to recommend professional vendors that we know will serve you well. After you book your event, we will send you a list of our recommended vendors. If you want to use a vendor that is not listed, let us know who they are. We will send them an application and see if we can get them on our service provider list.

Yes! For easy NO STEPS access, park in our lot behind the building, come inside through the Green Gate Courtyard and enter the back door. We also have an accessible family restroom.
