Today marks the 160th anniversary of the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia. Get details about this living living history event at Appomattox Court House National Park.
Appomattox is not just about Civil War history.
Are you looking for a getaway from the big city hustle and bustle? Are you a homeschool family that loves learning in the context of living history? Do you like biking, climbing, bouldering; or the challenge of the VA Triple Crown hike? Perhaps you’d rather have a relaxing day on the water, a great wine-tasting experience, or simply enjoy the view from a leisurely drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Whatever your preference, visit Virginia and make Appomattox an essential stop.
It’s a Christmas Eve tradition at our house! We enjoy a feast of sweet treats and savory charcuterie then gather around a little German Christmas Pyramid. While the candles burn and the windmill spins, we talk about the important things. Namely, “What have we seen the LORD do this year?” and “What are we praying for in the new one?”
